WASH YOUR PILLOWS
YOU SLEEP NEXT TO THEM EVERY DAY!
Washing pillows at the laundromat is a great way to freshen up your bedding, especially if you don’t have a washing machine at home or if your pillows are too large to fit in your machine. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to wash pillows at the laundromat:
-
Check the care label on your pillows to determine the best washing method. Some pillows can be washed in the machine, while others need to be dry cleaned or hand washed. Make sure to follow the care instructions to avoid damaging your pillows.
-
Gather your supplies. You’ll need a laundromat with large front-loading machines, laundry detergent, a stain remover (optional), and a couple of large plastic bags or a laundry bag.
-
Pre-treat any stains on your pillows. If your pillows have any stains, it’s best to treat them before washing. Simply apply a small amount of stain remover to the stain and gently rub it in. Let it sit for a few minutes before washing.
-
Load your pillows into the washing machine. If your pillows are small enough, you can wash them in a standard-sized washing machine. Otherwise, you’ll need to use a larger machine that’s typically found in laundromats. Be sure to place your pillows in a plastic bag or laundry bag to prevent them from getting damaged in the machine.
-
Add detergent and start the wash cycle. Follow the care instructions on your pillows to determine the best washing cycle. For most pillows, a warm or hot water cycle with a mild detergent is recommended.
-
Dry your pillows. After the wash cycle is complete, transfer your pillows to a dryer. Again, follow the care instructions on your pillows to determine the best drying temperature. For most pillows, a low or medium heat setting is recommended. If your pillows are made of natural materials, such as down or feather, you may want to use a lower heat setting to avoid damaging the filling.
-
Fluff your pillows. Once your pillows are dry, it’s important to fluff them to help restore their shape. Place your pillows in the dryer and run a fluff cycle (without heat) for about 10-15 minutes. This will help loosen any clumps and restore the pillows’ loft.
-
Enjoy your freshly washed pillows. After washing and drying your pillows, they should be fresh and clean. Place them back on your bed and enjoy a good night’s sleep on your newly refreshed bedding.
